New Rules For 2011

The new rules introduced for 2011 include KERS and the new movable rear wings. Another new feature to the 2011 season is the Pirelli tyres replacing the Bridgestone tyres.

To start with the new movable rear wings. As we saw in the first race they didnt have much of an affect. In my opinion if you in a second of the driver infront, you should be allowed to use it around the whole track, not just on one section of the track as this clearly didnt help overtaking.

With KERS this has improved overtaking in the first race and generally made the race more intresting. However this is a big disadvantage to the lower, new teams such as HRT, Lotus and Virgin who have no experience with the KERs system, let alone the money to spend on researching and perfecting it when there car is still miles of the pace. As we saw the Red Bulls dominated the race even without KERs on their cars, showing how superior they are to the rest of the field, which I believe will be asking the FIA to examine the car to make sure they are not cheating in any way.

Finally the new Pirelli tyres which have really spiced up the new season, involving many more pitstops in the race bringing strategy into play. However as we saw with Perez it is possible to run the entire race on only two sets of tyres, even though their car was disqualified due to the rear wing. Also I believe Button will be far superior to Hamilton as he has such better tyre management than Hamilton along with been able to call at the right time when to swap to the new tyres. We are still yet to see what these tyres preform like in wet conditions, but hopefully in the coming Malaysian GP next weekend we will see what these tyres are like.
